Abstract

The article presents how a character from classical Korean literature became known among Spanish American letters at the beginning of the 20th century, under the pen of the Guatemalan writer, Enrique Gómez Carrillo (1873-1927), through his travel chronicles. These collaborations reached the Peruvian press, specifically, the Prisma magazine, then directed by the writer Clemente Palma (1872-1946). In this way, we face the first visions and interpretations, typical of the current of modernism, about Korean culture, and its emblematic characters. This look is not exempt from exoticism and corroborates the cosmopolitan imprint of the modernist writers of this period.
