Abstract

This year 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Peru and Japan, which were established in 1873 with the signing of the Preliminary Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between the two countries. This agreement would propitiate the subsequent migration of Japanese to Peru, which began only a few years later, in 1899. Almost 125 years after the massive arrival of Japanese immigrants to work in the Peruvian coastal estates, the Nikkei community is integrated into the country and is part of its ethnic and cultural diversity.
