Artificial intelligence and its potential use in consular procedures

Abstract

The article aims to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence in the management of consular procedures such as civil registration, powers of attorney and legalization of documents and issuance of travel and identity documents. The first part describes the advancement and roles of Artificial Intelligence. The second part considers an implementation of Artificial Intelligence on mentioned consular procedures. The third part reflects on use of Artificial Intelligence compared by the work conducted by a Consular officer, considering ethical aspects and the use of personal information. The conclusion is that Artificial Intelligence cannot replace the Consular Officer job, but its proper use could speed up consular procedures, always under human supervision.

Dáel Carlos Dávila Elguera, Consulado General del Perú en Londres

Peruvian diplomat. Consul assigned to Peru in London. Fulbright scholar graduated with a Master’s in Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago. Holds a Master's in Social Management from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and a Master's in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru Javier Pérez de Cuéllar. He is a lawyer from the Universidad Privada del Norte and a sociologist from the National University of Cajamarca.
